In doing so we would ask that parents provide a current email address so we can email Newsletters, Child Usage Statements and other useful information.

The Koala (Preschool) Room has had some input from parents who are interested in their children further developing literacy skills. Following these suggestions and the children’s interests, we have incorporated many aspects of literacy development in the program. The staff have ensured the room is a “print rich” environment and are using grouptime opportunities to encourage the children to engage with this print to develop an understanding of key literacy concepts and processes including:

  • Letter/ sound relationships

  • Conventions of writing; left to right, top to bottom

  • Upper and lower case lettering

  • Letter recognition

  • Name recognition

  • Opportunities to write letters and form words

  • Matching letters

Whilst we are currently focusing on literacy and have introduced new resources into the program, it is a regular part of our preschool curriculum (in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework) and our school readiness program. We believe, by continuing to develop positive attitudes and competencies in literacy, the children can experience successful ongoing learning in school and beyond.
